Armenia

Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos.

Armenia is the capital of the Quindio Department in Colombia with a population of 320,000 and an area of 121 square kilometers. Armenia was founded in October 14 1889 by Jesus Maria Ocampo A.K.A Tigrero. The city was initially called Villa Holguin, in honor of the current president of the country. The city experimented a quick growing and expansion of its economy, however, the means of transportation was rudimentary, mainly because of the difficult topography of andes mountains. Armenia had been called the Ciudad Milagro mean Miracle City, due to its fast urban growth and development.

Armenia has several universities, the primary being the University of Gran Colombia and the University of Quindio. Local sporting events include national and international soccer tournaments, bullfighting, golf, swimming and cycling. The mountainous area surrounding Armenia has helped create some of the greatest climbing cyclists in the world, many of whom compete internationally in events such as the Tour de France.

Armenia is the kind of town you daydream about. It is an attractive city with natural beauty and historical places, while traveling in Central America.
