Colon, Panama
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos. Colon is a sea port municipality on the Caribbean Sea coast of Panama. In 2000, the population of the city was 204,000 people. It is near the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal. The city is the capital of Panama's Colon Province. The name Colon is in honor of Christopher Columbus. Panama, officially the Republic of Panama is the southernmost country of Central America. A transcontinental country, its isthmus constitutes the southernmost part of a natural land bridge between the continents of North America and South America. It borders Costa Rica to the northwest, Colombia to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south.
Central America is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, various local cuisine, hospitality and safety.
