Joao Pessoa
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos. Joao Pessoa is located at the easternmost point of the America. Joao Pessoa is the capital of Paraiba, a state in the northeast region of Brazil. It has total population of 384,000 people, reaching more than 1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area. It was founded in 1585 as Filipeia, Joao Pessoa is the third oldest city in Brazil. It fell under Dutch occupation from 1634 to 1654, and was called Friederstadt. This city is inside the Greater Joao Pessoa area and it is a port city. In 1930 the capital assumed its current name, after a famous politician death from the region.
Joao Pessoa has approximately 40 kilometers of beaches and small natural islands. Like some of its sister municipalities and towns, Joao Pessoa is blessed with beautiful surroundings and a unique natural setting. The picturesque scenery, the majesty of nature, the slow pace of life, and the welcoming nature of its people all combine to make this region one of the most important tourist attractions in Central America.
