Recife
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos. Recife is the third biggest city in the Northeastern Region of Brazil and the largest metropolitan area. It is the 5th largest metropolitan area in Brazil and the capital of Pernambuco. In 2005, the population of the city was 1,501,000 and an area of 218 square kilometers. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounded by rivers and crossed by bridges, Recife is full of islands and mangroves that magnify its geography. The area around Recife was one of the first in Brazil to be settled by the Portuguese Crown. Recife is located in the so called Litoral zone of Pernambuco, an area a few tens of kilometers wide adjoining the coast. Recife is not so affected by the droughts usually observed in the arid zone of the Sertao, which takes the best part of the West of the State of Pernambuco.
Recife is the kind of town you daydream about. It is a city with endless recreational opportunities, rich history, and modern day luxuries.
