Rio de Janeiro
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos. Rio de Janeiro is the name of both a state and a city in southeastern Brazil. The city was the capital of Brazil and of the Portuguese Empire. Commonly known as just Rio, the city is also nicknamed as the Marvelous City. In 2005, the population of the city was 5,613,000 and an area of 1,260 square kilometers. It is well-known for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches. In Rio de Janeiro, buses are the main means of mass transportation.
Central America is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, various local cuisine, hospitality and safety.
