Riohacha, Guajira
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos. Riohacha is a city and municipality named after the nearby river that flows into the Caribbean Sea, capital city of the department of Guajira in Colombia's Caribbean Region. In 2005, the population of the city was 99,472. The city is one of Colombia's most significant maritime commercial ports as well as a multicultural center for the Department. The area is mostly desertic and inhabited by Amerindians, mainly of the Wayuu culture. During colonial times Riohacha was a very important port due to findings of vast amounts of pearls.
A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Riohacha is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
