San Jose de Mayo
Central America is the central geographic region of the Americas. It is variably defined either as being a region of the Americas in its own right or as the southern portion of North America. Physiographically, Central America is a tropical isthmus that connects North and South America. It includes 7 countries and many small offshore islands. Overall, the land is fertile and rugged, and dominated through its heart by a string of volcanic mountain ranges with a few active volcanos. San Jose de Mayo is Uruguayan city and is capital of San Jose department. As of 2004, the official population was 36,339 inhabitants. San Jose de Mayo is located in the center of the department of San Jose, on the right bank of the San Jose River. It was founded June 1, 1783, during the 19th century it became a commercial and cultural center, known as Montevideo Chico and was elevated to the category of a city July 12, 1856, culminating at the turn of the 20th century with the construction of the Teatro Maccio. The nation is the second smallest independent country in South America, larger only than Suriname and is the most politically and economically stable. San Jose de Mayois definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in Central America worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of Central America.
